“3x3 Interplay”, 1970
Kinetic play object by Yaacov Agam (1928).
Silver plated multiple.
Signed and numbered 16/18 H.C.
Agam strived to make art that is "beyond the static visible". And indeed this piece does so in several ways. It looks different from every angle. What you see is just one possibility at a time. It goes from a line to a plane to a fictional volume in between. As the viewer can alter its position, it takes on different shapes. Just like with Brancusi's Endless Column, one can imagine it to continue up into space. And in this case, one can also imagine its movement in time.
