MING LIGHT OBJECT, ALDO VAN DEN NIEUWELAAR
One unit of an imaginary grid...
It is often hard to categorize van den Nieuwelaar's work as either design or art and this is certainly the case with the Ming. We have to ask ourselves if it makes a difference. It is just an excellent piece. And very rare. Only about 20 were produced by the Boops Lighting company.
Aldo van den Nieuwelaar restricted most of his designs to a three dimensional grid. With the Ming he shows us a single unit of this grid. Of course the object too has rational, grid-based proportions, but this unit is not material; it is the space left open, consisting of light. The points indicate directions along the X, Y and Z axis, as if van den Nieuwelaar wants us to imagine the grid to go further into space. It is a mental grid. If you have one unit specified, it determines the whole grid, epanding endlessly.
This Ming has never been used. The condition is perfect. It comes in the original box.
It has a dimmer button on the side to adjust the light. The light source itself has a lifetime about 16.000 burning hours and is being delivered in the warm colour 827 (2700 Kelvin)
