Modernist coffee table, Elmar Berkovichattr. for Metz&Co 1930's
A very nice modernist coffee table with strong Bauhaus influences. With the vertical supporting tubes placed inwards it looks architectural, like a small Mies van der Rohe building. The design has been attributed to Elmar Berkovich for Metz&Co, 1935.
It combines an interesting mix of materials. A reinforced glass top that rests on black rubber shock absorbers. A white metal frame with small wooden ends to protect the floor. All functional choices. The double layer is handy for magazines etc.
The table is in a very good condition. A tiny bit of lacquer loss on the corners. The glass has no damage
