Functionalist coffee table, W.H. Gispen 1930
Table No 9 is an early example of modernist steel furniture, designed by dutch pioneer Willem Hendrik Gispen.
There has been a close interaction between Dutch Modernists and the Bauhaus from the very start. This table shows similarities to Marcel Breuer's B27 table, but Gispen's frame has been welded and polished, which is a time consuming labour, creating uninterrupted lines and higher durability.
There is some damage to the chrome on the bottom of the frame. The glass top is undamaged, with only some superficial scratches.
