You can saw the totem along a ridge of your choice to make numerous useful items like a stool, a lamp, a vase, a paper bin, an umbrella stand etc.
The totem itself is beautiful, but useless. Does that make it a piece of art, or an ornament? And does it stop to be art when it becomes functional? Who can we call the designer if the consumer decides?
The Do Cut Totem poses conceptual questions about the definition of high art, low art and authorship. Yet it is simple and straight forward: take the saw and make something. Do cut!
