Rare Amsterdammer cabinet with belly, A. vd Nieuwelaar for Pastoe 1978
This cabinet was designed in 1978 by Aldo van den Nieuwelaar for Pastoe. He created several versions of the Amsterdammer. Some are still in production toaday, but this one is not. It is a model of the first series, bought in the late seventies; a rare find.
As with all of vd Nieuwelaars designs, it was made in a grid on which the proportions are restricted. In this cas the curve goes back and forth, which has an interesting visual effect when you slide the door. It has a drawer for hanging documents, which can be handy, but one could also take it out.
The top of the side panels has a few scratches and a paint retouch and one shelf shows wear, which you won't see when you place things on it. Considering its age, it is in a very good condition. The sliding door is still completely intact.
