Double sided bookcase, Wim Rietveld 1960
A bit of intertextuality between father and son: This double sided, metal bookcase by Wim Rietveld refers to the wooden bookcase Gerrit Rietveld designed in the 1930's. As it's accessible from three sides, it functions as a semi transparent room divider; leaving the space open, while also creating separate areas.
It was desigend in 1960 for the exclusive departmentstore De Bijenkorf, for which just a few years earlier Gerrit Rietveld designed an exhibition for a model home (together with Constant Nieuwenhuys).
The bookcase is in a very good condition. Although there are some usermarks which can be kept out of sight, it is one of the best I have seen. The lowest white parts have small cuts see pictures. You only see them when you lie down on the floor)
This is a rare piece. Very functional and full of character
