Japanese lacquer art deco box, ca 1930

Japonism, art deco, the machine age ideal; it all comes together in this beautiful box. Made in France around 1930, it is a sign of the times. The design is simply stunning. To apply Japanese lacquer is an elaborate process. This one is made with silver leaf, light red and beige lacquer.

Condition: considerable wear on the edges, a small resoration on the back
