Aldo van den Nieuwelaar’s approach to design was closely related to the concrete geometric art of the late 1960’s and 1970’s. In fact it is often difficult to categorise it as art, or design. The “Disk” from 1974 is no exception. This is not just a lamp with a flat round shade. It represents the abstract idea of a circle. The circle pivots on a vertical axis. Changing it’s position in three dimensional space.
The Disk was only produced in small numbers. This is a rare original from the 1970’s. It iremains in a very good condition with only some superficial usermarks on the base, which is normal for its age.
