In the early days of electric lighting, modernist designers would experiment with how they could manipulate the light, so that the room would be sufficiantly lit, but one would not look directly into the source. This lamp found quite a unique solution. It serves both as an uplight, bouncing the light back from the ceiling, and as a more atmospheric lamp, emitting a warm light downward, diffused by the fabric.
The fabric is still oiginal. It is fixed on a matte, nickel plated frame that brings two electric wires together through an elegant arc. One might call it "art deco", but all the decorative elements are also functional.
