Loveable little desk lamp called The Tumbler (De Duikelaar), produced by Daalderop around 1928.
Its bell shaped shade can be posioned any way you like, for it is counterweighted by a heavy metal ball. The ball is something typical for early 20th century machine age design. Like a huge ball bearing. Interestingly the holder underneath is not attached to the lamp. In that sense the design is comparable to the revolutionary LC4 lounge chair by Charlotte Perriand and le Corbusier, which was designed approximately at the same time (the LC4 has a seat seperated from the frame). The heavy, industrial construction of this lamp however is strangely compensated by the elegant shape of the shade. To me it looks like a little forrest flower has turned into a metal machine.
The lamp is nickle plated and only the inside of the shade is white to reflect the light. Considering it is an original of around 90 years old, it is in a great condition with only minor usermarks. Some paintloss on the inside and a bit of the edge of the bakelite socket has broken off, which is not visible with a bulb in it. The electrical wire has been renewed.
