A set of two model VF1 folding arm chairs by Gijs Bakker, one of the most influential Dutch designers of the late 20th century.
The chairs are consistently constructed out of round parts with the same radius. As the Vitruvius man by Leonardo da Vinci already demonstrates, the human body relates to a circle. Gijs Bakker has proven that this is still the case in a seating position. One can fold the parts together to store them (also practical for shipment).
The chairs were owned by an employee of Castelijn. This is the earliest version, upholstered with fabric, which is even more rare. The fabric is original and it shows light traces of use. The wood on the corners of the backrests shows some color fading. Overall both chairs are in a very good vintage condition.
