Cognac leather SZ02 chair, Martin Visser, 't Spectrum 1960
A clear, minimal construction with much attention placed on the details, like the straight, seemless corners of the frame.
Not only was Martin Visser one of the most influential designers of the Netherlands, he was also a pioneering art collector. He had close connections to minimal artists like Carl Andre and Sol LeWitt, who, thanks to Martin Visser, had their works welded by the very same company that made the frame of this chair.
The design is uncompromising, timeless, almost archetypical. This one is of the first series, designed in 1960. The saddle leather's deep patina contrasts beautifully with the cold polished steel of the frame.
The chair is in a very good vintage condition.
