Hairpin base club chair ca 1950's
In the last century there were two opposing tendencies within the design avant-garde either to make a chair out of a single piece ( example Verner Panton, Eero Saarinen), or to radically separate the seat and the base ( Eames). This is a clear example of the last category. We have never seen a club chair seat with a hairpin base before. The base is so minimal that the seat seems to be floating.
The designer is unknown to us. It is in many ways reminiscent of designs by the French group A.R.P. (Pierre Guariche, or Andre Motte).
The chair is completely original, including the additional pillow. The fabric is in a good condition for its age with normal signs of use
