A rare set of armchairs by the influential architect Otto Wagner for the interior of the famous Austrian Postsparkasse in Vienna in 1903. Several variations were designed for different areas in the building. Thery were produced by both J&J Kohn and Thonet. These two were made in the 1920's by Thonet as model 6527 (labelled underneath).
The chairs have been reupholstered in the past with dark brown leather. One of them has a small restoration underneath the seat. Both are in a very good condition, sturdy and comfortable
Otto Wagner was one of the founders of the Secession and the teacher of Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser, Rudolph Schindler and many more. By creating a synthesis between the esthetical and the functional, his designs are seen as early steps towards 20th century modernism
