Rare lounge chair No. 55, Paul Schuitema for d3, 1932

A fantastic modernist lounge chair designed by Paul Schuitema around 1932 and produced by D3. This is a rare original from before the war. Not a reissue. Highly collectable. It features a chrome plated tubular frame, black lacquered  armrests. The seat still has the traditional vegetable fillings (crin).
It has been reupholstered with a high quality fine Boucle fabric in pure wool, burnt sienna brown. The armrests have at some point been repainted and one screw on the backrest has been replaced by a kind of hook. The chrome has some damage on the bottom. Some signs of use are normal. In general it is in a very good condition and very comfortable. This model is hard to find, it is part of the collection the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Boijmans and Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam.
